Why Articles?
Pretty good question!
Why are there articles in this Game Design portfolio website?
Why write stuff and put it out in the world wild web?
Well, I can find four different reasons as to why this is more than just a portfolio:
#1 – To Track my progress over the years
Having a “catalogue” of some sorts for my past works, design workflows and written thoughts is a great way to compare with my future selves. How did my views on Game Design change? What was my stance on this Narrative technique? What was my methodology like when designing a certain feature?
All of those questions and more available in one place.
#2 – To Give more context around my work
These articles are going to be the space to put Design Documents, problems encountered during production and how we solved them, reasonings behind specific choices, and overall go in-depth about the different projects I participated in over the years.
#3 – To think about different subjects
Why stop myself at Game Projects?
These articles are going to be an exercise to think more about different Game Design-related subjects, or even to go farther and write about other things!!
The same principle as a game backlog where you write a paragraph or two right after finishing playing a game: to think more about the game and create a complete memory of it.
By writing an article about subjects, I’m thinking about them more analytically, and in turn I internalize and memorize them better.
#4 – I like writing
As simple as that.
I like writing, be it stories, design documents or essays.
Nothing else to say, I guess!
